Jess and Willem were one of those couples.
We first met them for a picnic inspired engagement session, where we got to spend time with the two of them and their newly adopted pup. It was one of those sessions where it didn’t take long to feel like we were photographing friends rather than people we had only just met.
So when their wedding day at Rhebokskloof Wine Estate in Paarl finally arrived, we already knew there was something very special about the story we were going to capture.

There is something undeniably spectacular about photographing weddings in Paarl.
The vineyards, dramatic mountain ranges and wide-open Winelands landscapes create incredible natural backdrops for a wedding day. Rhebokskloof Wine Estate is no exception, with its beautiful setting providing the perfect combination of countryside, vineyards and mountain scenery.
For Jess and Willem, however, it wasn’t simply the beautiful setting that made their wedding memorable.
It was the people.

Jess and Willem chose to celebrate their wedding surrounded by their closest family and friends.
Their day felt intimate and deeply intentional, with every part of the celebration centred around the things that mattered most to them.
Their faith was at the heart of their wedding.
It was a deeply spiritual celebration, filled with moments of reflection, prayer, emotion and gratitude. There was something incredibly beautiful about witnessing two people make their commitment to one another with such a strong sense of faith and purpose.
As wedding photographers, these are the moments we love being trusted to document.
Not simply the big moments, but the quiet ones in between — the emotions on a parent’s face, the laughter between friends, the hands held during prayer and all those little interactions that tell the bigger story of a wedding day.
From Engagement Session to Wedding Day
One of our favourite things about photographing a couple’s wedding is having the opportunity to know them before the big day.
Our engagement session with Jess and Willem had already given us a glimpse into their relationship. Spending that time together — including meeting their newly adopted pup — meant that by the time their wedding arrived, we already understood a little more about who they were as a couple.
That connection makes such a difference.
When a couple is comfortable with you, the camera becomes less noticeable. They can relax, be themselves and enjoy the experience rather than feeling like they are constantly being photographed.
And that’s exactly what we want.
Beautiful photographs are wonderful, but the photographs become so much more meaningful when they feel like you.

One of the joys of a Paarl wedding is having such an incredible landscape to work with.
The vineyards stretch across the estate while the mountains rise dramatically beyond them, creating a natural backdrop that feels unmistakably South African.
For us as photographers, these landscapes provide endless opportunities for creative portraits.
