Modern romance, open skies and an evening that glowed with candlelight.
There’s a certain kind of wedding that doesn’t try too hard. It simply knows what it is.
Elegant without being excessive.
Romantic without being overly traditional.
Beautiful without losing the feeling of the people at the centre of it all.
Martica and Micheal’s wedding at Cavalli Estate was exactly that.
White roses. Soft candlelight. The green of the Stellenbosch Winelands stretching into the distance. A beautiful couple. And a day that felt intentional from beginning to end.
We’re incredibly proud that their celebration was later featured by Pink Book Weddings in Modern Romance – A Western Cape Celebration, highlighting the elegant, contemporary vision behind their day.
But behind all the beautiful details was something much simpler. Two people in love. And that is always where the best wedding stories begin.
A Modern Western Cape Wedding
Cavalli Estate is one of those venues that doesn’t need much introduction.
The landscape does a lot of the talking.
The open skies, sweeping Winelands views and lush green lawns create an incredible natural backdrop, and Martica and Micheal’s wedding embraced that beauty rather than trying to compete with it.
Their aesthetic was refined and modern, with a soft, neutral palette and an abundance of white roses. The result was timeless. Nothing felt overdone. Instead, each element seemed to have been chosen with purpose.
It was the kind of wedding where you could see the thought behind every decision, while still feeling like the couple were able to relax and simply enjoy the day.
Saying “I Do” Beneath the Winelands Sky
The ceremony was beautifully simple.
White roses lined the aisle, creating a clean and romantic path towards the ceremony space, while the surrounding landscape provided the most incredible natural backdrop.
There was something wonderfully symbolic about it. A carefully designed ceremony surrounded by nature. The softness of the flowers against the greenery. The couple standing beneath an endless Western Cape sky.
And two people promising to spend the rest of their lives together. The simplicity allowed the emotion of the moment to take centre stage. And that’s something we always love.
Because the most beautiful ceremony photographs aren’t necessarily about the décor. They’re about the look on someone’s face when they see their future spouse walking towards them. The hands held during the vows. The quiet smiles. The tears. The moment everyone realises that this is actually happening.
Modern Bridal Elegance

Martica’s bridal styling was beautifully considered, beginning with a custom ceremony dress before transitioning into a second look for the reception by Silk Stitches Bridal.
Having two bridal looks allowed her to bring two different moods into the day while keeping the overall aesthetic cohesive.
Her hair and makeup by Kaylie Marillier complemented the modern, sophisticated feel perfectly.
There was an effortless quality to the entire look. Elegant, but never overly complicated. And against the backdrop of Cavalli Estate, it photographed beautifully.
A Celebration Designed With Intention

One of the things that stood out about Martica and Micheal’s wedding was how naturally everything worked together.
The styling by All Things Weddings SA brought together clean lines, neutral tones and beautiful floral elements.
The ceremony and reception felt connected. The décor complemented the landscape. And the details never distracted from the couple. This is something we believe makes a huge difference to wedding photography. When the design of a wedding feels intentional but not overwhelming, there is room for the photographs to breathe. The landscape becomes part of the composition. The couple remains the focus.
And the images feel timeless rather than tied to a particular trend.
When the Sun Goes Down

And then came one of our favourite parts of the day. The sun began to disappear over the Winelands. The light softened. The sky changed. And hundreds of candles began to glow throughout the reception.
The atmosphere transformed completely.
Glass hurricanes and tall candleholders flickered in the evening breeze, casting warm light across the tables and creating an intimate, romantic atmosphere. Pink Book Weddings described the combination of white florals and candlelight as creating a modern aesthetic that felt both luxurious and effortlessly organic.
And it was every bit as beautiful as it sounds. This is the kind of transition we love photographing. The wedding looks completely different in the evening than it did during the day. The energy changes. The light changes. And suddenly, the celebration feels a little more intimate.
A Night of Celebration

The reception styling continued the modern aesthetic, with neutral linens, clean lines and thoughtful floral arrangements. The white roses remained a central feature, while the candlelight brought warmth and depth to the evening. But beautiful décor can only take a wedding so far.
Eventually, the tables become filled with stories. The speeches begin. The music gets louder. People start dancing. And the couple gets to let go of the timeline and simply enjoy being married.
With Donne Violinist, DJ Voodoo and 2woBunnies contributing to the atmosphere and entertainment, the evening had plenty of energy alongside all its elegance.
And that’s the balance we loved about Martica and Micheal’s day. It looked refined. But it still felt like a party.
The Quiet Moments Matter Too
For all the grandeur of a Cavalli Estate wedding, some of our favourite photographs from a day like this are the quiet ones.
A moment alone together. A hand resting on a shoulder.
A deep breath before entering the reception. A smile shared across a crowded room.
A couple stepping away from the celebration for just a few minutes.
These moments can be easy to overlook when you’re planning a wedding.
But they are often the photographs you’ll treasure most.
Because they don’t just show what the day looked like.
They remind you what it felt like. And that is ultimately what we’re trying to preserve through our work.
Featured by Pink Book Weddings
We’re especially proud that Martica and Micheal’s celebration was featured by Pink Book Weddings under the title Modern Romance – A Western Cape Celebration.
The feature highlighted the elegant outdoor setting, white roses, candlelit reception and understated luxury that made the wedding so distinctive.
It also featured the incredible team of creatives who brought the day together, including Cavalli Estate, Silk Stitches Bridal, Kaylie Marillier, All Things Weddings SA, Amo Creative, Donne Violinist, DJ Voodoo, 2woBunnies, LZ Travel, Naked Ape and Lord Charles Hotel.
For us, having the wedding featured is especially meaningful because it gives the photographs another life. The images become more than memories for the couple. They become inspiration for future couples dreaming about their own Western Cape wedding.
And that’s something we’re always incredibly grateful for.
More Than Perfect Photographs
Pink Book Weddings captured something that sits very close to our own philosophy as wedding photographers and filmmakers.
Wedding photography isn’t really about perfection. It’s about preservation. Preserving the way your partner looked at you. Preserving the sound of everyone laughing during the speeches. Preserving the wind moving through your veil. Preserving the atmosphere of the reception. Preserving the feeling of being surrounded by everyone you love. Because flowers fade. The candles burn out. The music eventually stops. The wedding day becomes yesterday.
But the photographs and film remain. And years from now, they can take you straight back.
