Tahnia and Stefan’s wedding at Route 62 Escape in Ladismith was definitely the latter.
Set against the rugged beauty of the Klein Karoo, their wedding brought together everything we love about a destination celebration — beautiful scenery, relaxed moments, good food, great music, family and friends, and two people completely in love.
From the moment we arrived, there was an unmistakable sense that this wasn’t going to be an ordinary wedding.
It was going to be a party. It was going to be an adventure. And most importantly, it was going to be their day.
A Wedding in the Heart of the Karoo
There is something special about getting married away from the familiar.
When you travel into the Karoo, the landscape changes almost immediately. The roads stretch endlessly. The mountains become part of the horizon. The pace slows down. And suddenly, there is space to breathe.
For Tahnia and Stefan, Route 62 Escape in Ladismith provided the perfect setting for their celebration.
Instead of a traditional city or Winelands wedding, they chose to embrace the character of the Klein Karoo — its wide-open spaces, dramatic mountains and relaxed country atmosphere.
And what a backdrop it was.
The Kind of Wedding Where Everyone Feels at Home
One of the things that stood out about Tahnia and Stefan’s wedding was how relaxed everything felt.
There was no sense of trying to make the day into something it wasn’t. Instead, the focus was on bringing their favourite people together and having an incredible time. The atmosphere was warm from the very beginning. Guests arrived ready to celebrate.
There was food, laughter, music and plenty of time to simply enjoy being together. And somewhere in the middle of all of it were Tahnia and Stefan — soaking it all in. That’s the kind of wedding day we love photographing.
The kind where couples aren’t spending the entire day worrying about whether everything is happening according to schedule.
They’re actually living it.
Tahnia’s Bridal Style
Tahnia looked incredible in her wedding dress by Babadoo & Company Designs, complemented by the beautiful styling created for her and her bridesmaids.
Her bridal look was completed by Willou Cosmetics, who took care of the bride and bridesmaids’ makeup and hairstyling, as well as makeup for both mothers.
And then there were the finishing touches.

All those little details that come together to create the final bridal look.
But once the dress was on and the day began, it was Tahnia’s personality that really shone through. Radiant, relaxed and completely ready to marry her person.
Stefan’s Karoo Wedding Style
Stefan looked equally sharp in his bespoke suit from Flux Bespoke Tailors Douglasdale.
The contrast between the polished wedding styling and the rugged Karoo landscape worked beautifully.
It’s one of the things we love about photographing destination weddings. Your surroundings become part of the story. The landscape isn’t simply a backdrop. It becomes part of the visual identity of the wedding.
The Details That Made the Day Theirs
While the big moments naturally take centre stage, it’s often the smaller details that tell you the most about a wedding.
The table styling by Johnita Marx Verhurings brought everything together, creating a relaxed but beautifully considered reception setting.
Guests were welcomed with hors d’oeuvres from Parkside Guesthouse, before the celebrations continued with a traditional spitbraai by Outeniqua Spitbraai.
And honestly, what could be more perfect for a Karoo wedding? Good food. A big group of people you love. The smell of a spitbraai in the air. And nowhere else you need to be.
Then the Party Started
And this is where the “what a vibe” really came into its own.
With DJ Dean and Above & Beyond Wedding Productions handling the sound and music, the reception quickly transformed into a proper celebration.
The kind where nobody wants to sit down. The kind where the dance floor becomes the centre of the universe. And the kind where we get some of our favourite photographs. Because once the formalities are over, people relax. The jackets come off. The shoes sometimes disappear. The dancing gets questionable.
And everyone forgets that there is a camera nearby. Those are the moments we live for.
